Know Your Kindred – Muricia

Name:  Muricia
Clan:  Ahrimane
Generation: 7th
Embraced: 1653

This Gangrel antitribu is the founder of the Ahrimane bloodline. In 1778, Muricia performed the ritual that turned her into the first Ahrimane.

While journeying by herself in the dwindling wilds of Europe, Muricia came across a burial mound surrounded by standing stones, she decided to force her way inside to see what it contained. Lying on stone slab was the form of a torporus elder vampire. Muricia did what any Sabbat would do, she Diablerised her. It soon became clear that this elder had been a practitioner of some form of blood magic.

Muricia was finding herself being drawn closer to nature and the spiritual. She found her powers taking on a new direction, what once had been a tie with the animals and the land became a tie with the animal spirits.

She found herself incapable of siring, but she adapted the ritual she had used upon herself and perform it on other willing Gangrel whom she thought were worthy.

Know Your Kindred – Calebros, The Martyr

Name: Calebros, The Martyr
Clan: Nosferatu
Generation: 9th
Embraced: 1780

The most influential Nosferatu in New York the past 50 years is Calebros, the Prince Pro Tempore of New York City. A figurehead chosen by the Camarilla elders only to give the troops a leader to rally behind and the Sabbat an enemy to focus on as the Camarilla leadership planned to take the city back from the Sabbat.

Calebros never wanted to be prince and is relieved to be vacating the position soon now that New York is in Camarilla control again. His main focus is to keep his clan safe from the Nictuku. His office is full of newspaper clippings and other reports he sees as pieces to a puzzle he needs to solve to ensure the survival of his clan.

There are many in the Nosferatu clan who are upset that Calebros is going to be replaced as prince. For them it is an insult that Calebros was used or allowed himself to be used as a figurehead. But Calebros would like everyone to drop the issue and move on to more important matters. Many Kindred in New York respect Calebros greatly and believe no prince can be chosen unless Calebros gives his blessing.

Calebros remembers little of his mortal life. He was abducted as a child by a Nosferatu and held for a long time until his Embrace. As far has he knows he’s always been Nosferatu.

Calebros is usually found at his desk in his lair beneath Manhattan. His spine is crooked and arthritic joints give him pain. If pressed he is more than able to act swiftly and decisively against an opponent.

Know Your Kindred – Antoine, The Lost

Name: Antoine, The Lost
Clan: Malkavian
Generation: 9th
Embraced: 1892

Antoine was a Malkavian anarch on the run from the Tremere. He snuck into their stronghold in Austria with the intention of stealing information he could use against the clan. Instead he found the Sword of Nul – a powerful demon blade once owned by the Ventrue witch, Tiamat. The Tremere had obtained and studied the blade, but never used it.

Antoine didn’t know the origin of the sword, but when he was discovered he grabbed the blade and used it to kill many guards as he made his escape. He fled to America to hide.  But in truth, the Tremere were not chasing after Antoine. Instead they wanted to watch him and learn from his exploits what the sword could do.

But others were seeking Antoine, including one low level Tremere who wanted the sword for himself. Before Antoine left he told some cohorts where he was heading and about a magic sword of great power he had obtained. They too went out in search of him and the sword.

As it turns out, the Sword of Nul has a will of its own and will communicate telepathically with its user. It invaded Antoine’s dreams, trying to force him to return the sword to London, where Tiamat laid in torpor.

Antoine grew weary of being pursued and became increasingly paranoid and nervous. Eventually it all proved too much for Antoine and he killed himself with the sword.

In life, Antoine was a fat, rude, disobedient child. After both his parents died he was sent to live with his aunt. She couldn’t take his antics and so she sent him to a strict boarding school when he was 10. On his 16th birthday his Aunt went to visit him and instead of finding a well behaved young man, she found a surly even more disrespectful teenager.

The aunt complained to the dean, threatening legal action for her nephew’s lack of discipline. The dean was also a Malkavian ghoul. He told his master about Antoine and the vampire Embraced the boy and then sent him back to his aunt. Antoine’s first frenzy killed his aunt and he drained her of all her blood.

Know Your Kindred – Lin Jun

Name:  Lin Jun
Clan:  Toreador
Generation: 9th (?)
Embraced:  1909

The Wanchai district of Hong Kong is home to the city’s Anarch community.  Its outstanding member is Lin Jun.   Born in China, she was already a sorceress when, while visiting Paris in 1909 she was taken by the Toreador in a plot against the Tremere.

By the greatest of luck she survived and has been fleeing ever since.   The Tremere would like to see her dead; they regard her as a traitor and a thief of knowledge.  But Lin is crafty and powerful in both Tremere magic and her own unique sorcery.  Robert Pedder, the Prince of Hong Kong refuses to help the Tremere get her, glad to see a thorn in the Warlocks’ side.

Lin Jun is highly respected by the other Anarchs.  She is aloof and prefers to study magic rather than get involved in Kindred politics.  If she were to take a more active role many Anarchs would follow her.  However, her attitude is domineering and intolerant, and younger Kindred would find her leadership chafing after a time.

Know Your Kindred – Marguerite Foccart

Name:  Marguerite Foccart
Clan:  Brujah
Generation;  9th
Embraced:  1768

Marguerite was from a wealthy noble family.   She was Embraced just three days before the French Revolution.   She was inspired to help the poor and embarked on a career in philanthropy and led a life of celebrity as a demimondaine (a wealthy upscale mistress) and as a stage actress.

She went to Paris and became the lover of the proto-anarch Robin Leeland.  She stayed with him for a few years until she met Jeremy MacNeil.  MacNeil struck a cord with Marguerite and she fell in love with him.   She and MacNeil left for America, where they arrived on the eve of the American Revolution, hoping to promote movements for political freedom among the mortals.

Marguerite stayed for a few months, but her enthusiasm for the New World soured and she returned to France leaving MacNeil in America.   She reunited with Leeland, falling into his arms once more and remaining there until the 1940s.

In 1944 she heard of MacNeil’s rebellion back in Califorina and her love for him resurfaced and she left with Leeland’s blessing to aid him in founding the Anarch Free State.  They were successful killing the Prince and numerous elders in Los Angeles, capturing everything between the Mexican border to San Jose.

The Anarchs never achieved the utopia they hoped for and in 1998 the Kuei-jin a.k.a. Kindred of the East made a power move against the fragmented Anarch gangs that drove out MacNeil and the other Anarchs from Los Angeles.   Marguerite lives with her anarch companions in exile while they plan to recapture their lands.

Marguerite and Jeremy MacNeil are blood bond to each other.

Marguerite sired Steve Booth after he was involved in a surfing accident.

Know Your Kindred – Black Lotus

Name: Black Lotus
Clan: Followers of Set (Serpents of Light)
Generation: 10th
Embraced: 1983

Black Lotus was born Nina Barker, the daughter of a renowned biblical scholar. Her father’s traveling left Nina alone, neglected in boarding schools and hotels. When she was 18 she tried to get her father’s attention with suicide attempts, older men and drugs, but none of it turned her father away from his work.

She was found by a Serpent of Light laying in an alley after being raped. The vampire was impressed by her state of degradation, so he embraced her. When Nina returned to her father, she used Dominate to strip him of all his memories until he was an empty shell. She moved to Montreal and met with Creamy Jade and The Rose, offering her father to them as a gift. They welcomed her into their coven and Nina has gone by the name Black Lotus ever since.

Nina takes pleasure in destroying memories from her customers at the brothel she works at, especially from educated men. Because of this habit to destroy knowledge, the Kindred scholars of Montreal would like to see her meet final death.

Nina looks much younger than she really is. Her delicate frame and innocent face are deceiving, hiding the cruel monster inside.

Know Your Kindred – The Rose

Name: The Rose
Clan: Tzimisce
Generation: 9th
Embraced: 1957

The Rose was born Alison Benson. She was the victim of sexual abuse as a young child, the result of which left her with a psychosomatic condition where she could not sense touch, taste or smell. Not being able to experience sensations left Alison with a bitter, hollow life. She turned to drugs and S&M, but none of that worked. Eventually she developed a passion for torture, getting pleasure from watching others in misery and pain. This lead to the murder of five people for which Alison was arrested.

On the night of her sentencing, Alison was rescued and embraced by an unknown vampire who heard of her exploits in the news reports. When Alison awoke she now had feeling in her entire body. The wooden surface of the coffin she was laying in and other new sensations sent her into a frenzy and she tore through the ground, delighting in it all.

When she emerged on the surface she jumped into her sire hoping to feel his body and texture, but before she knew it, Alison was ripping through him and he met Final Death. When her sire’s nomadic pack came looking for them, The Rose stalked and killed them all in a torrent of passion and rage.

Since that night The Rose was indoctrinated into the Sabbat and now is the third Bishop of Montreal. The Rose is also the leader of the Widows – along with Creamy Jade and Black Lotus. They run a brothel known as “The Heart,” catering to Montreal’s elite, be they mortal or vampire. The Rose and the Widows hold considerable sway over the city’s powerful.

The Rose uses Vicissitude on herself to look inhumanly beautiful. She is constantly changing little details about herself, so she never looks exactly the same twice. She prefers to dress in fetish garb that is crafted from human leather and bones. The Rose likes to keep others off balance by acting androgynous, neither man nor woman, but both. Her voice is very haunting, fluctuating from male to female. Toreador become transfixed when listening to her talk.

The Rose and Creamy Jade are the chief spiritual advisors of The Path of Cathari – a path of enlightenment that advises embracing evil inorder to transcend and unlock your inner divinity and to test others by corrupting and perverting them. Many followers of Cathari come to Montreal for guidance from these two vampires.

Know Your Kindred – Tears, The Dark Pierrot

Name: Tears, The Dark Pierrot
Clan: Toreador Antitribu
Generation: 11th
Embraced: 1982

A “Pierrot” is a sad clown and Tears is the ultimate Pierrot.

In life Tears was a male prostitute working the streets when he was approached by The Rose and Creamy Jade. The two bought him for a night of passion, but instead Creamy tortured and humiliated him with degrading acts. Tears’ mind came close to shattering, but as he stood on the brink of death, Creamy Jade embraced him because she had never created a childe before.

Tears enjoyed her love for a few weeks, but sensing she would soon tire of him, Tears left and joined Zarnovich’s Circus – a collection of the most psychotic, deranged and deviant vampires of the Sabbat. They travel around North America performing in front of all audiences, attempting to subvert their sanity with dark and perverse circus acts. Zarnovich is the leader of the group, a Tzimisce who likes to perform experiments with Vissitude.

Tears performs as a clown there. Tears’ face has been permanently altered by Zarnovich with chalk-white skin, two red tears, with black lips that has one pointing upward for a smile and the other down into a frown. Tears uses Dementation and Presence to instill every possible emotion into his audience. By the end of his performance they are either insane or catatonic.

During the winter the circus stays in an abandoned amusement park. Tears’ lair is a house of mirrors designed to mimic his passion for emotions.

Know Your Kindred – Count Germaine

Name: Count Germaine
Clan: Brujah
Generation: 6th
Embraced: 1792

Germaine is on the Red List for his actions during the French Revolution. While still a mortal he was an enemy of the Crown, deeply involved in attempts to overthrow the monarchy in the late 1780s. At this time the elders of the Toreador clan were allies of the royal family and had been using their influence to make sure the status quo stayed intact.

Germaine met a Toreador known as Countess d’ Adhemar – an advisor to Marie Antoinette. The Countess was also a neonate of Madame Guil, who secretly supported the revolution even though her clan did not. Germaine and the Countess enjoyed a love affair and the Countess used him to filter information back to his allies to keep the Brujah one step ahead of the Toreador.

The ploy worked and the French revolt was able to capture the King and Queen before they could escape Paris. Defeat was a deep blow to the Toreador and they knew that someone within the clan had betrayed them. Countess d’Adhemar used all her cunning to hide her guilt from the ensuing investigation.

For his success, Germaine was Embraced by the Brujah Critias, who had been secretly guiding Germaine’s steps the whole time. Critias quickly showed Germaine how to use his new abilities, then he disappeared, heading to America. While Germaine remembers his sire’s face, he never learned his name.

Germaine relished his new powers, but in the aftermath of the revolution he was hunted by the Toreador thanks to Countess d’Adhemar. After barely surviving an attack by the Countess one stormy night in a park, Germaine fled to America in search of his sire. Germaine wants to destroy Critias to avenge his near death encounter with d’Adhemar.

Germaine despises the Camarilla, believing them to be just another privileged ruling class like the Toreador clan. He also has little fondness for the Sabbat. He knows he is wanted by the Camarilla and he is willing to participate in any anarch activities he can, but he always uses an alias to hide his true identity.

Although the Toreador have put a trophy on Germaine, Madame Guil has done little to track him down. While Germaine is an anarch, he’s done little to justify his place on the Red List. Besides the Camarilla, the Sabbat are also looking for Germaine, in the hopes he will be properly motivated to join them. Countess d’Adhemar is also still out there somewhere, ruthlessly seeking to destroy Germaine to cover up her involvement in the revolution 200 years ago.

Note: With his skills in Presence, Germaine can cause those around him to become enraged.
