Hardestadt is not really Hardestadt.  He is infact Hardestadt’s childe.  The real Hardestadt was diablerized by the Brujah Tyler during the Anarch Revolt.

Since Hardestadt the elder was the key founder of the Camarilla, his childe sought to make sure the sect survived by masquerading as his sire.   Only a few of the elder’s progeny knew that the younger replaced him.

One vampire who learned the truth centuries later was the Gangrel researcher Beckett.  In fear of being exposed, Hardestadt hired assassins to silence Beckett, but none were successful.

On the eve of Gehenna Hardestadt met final death when he was killed by the ex-archon Theo Bell.
